Blackpool has rejected a bid to open a small casino in the region. The council believes that approving the bid might jeopardize the resort-citys chances of bagging the super casino license.

The bid to open a gambling mecca in Blackpool’s Central Promenade has been rejected for fears that it might harm the resort-city’s bid to host Britain’s first-ever super casino.

The Noble Organization pitched to convert the Palace Nightclub into a three-storey gaming and cabaret club that could accommodate up to 900 people.

However, councilors on Blackpools Council’s development control committee unanimously voted to scrap the application, on basis that if it pushes through, it might pave the way for other small casino bods.

“We need to concentrate on the bigger picture and see where out super casino bid takes us before we allow any small casino applications. Blackpool is waiting for the regional casino decision and it would be foolish to spoil our chances for that,” councilor Mary Smith said.

The councilors voted in tune with the officers’ recommendations to refuse the two applications for a casino with 20 gaming tables, 20 jackpot tables and 32 roulette machines.

Town hall officials were hesitant about the project because it might put at risk Blackpool’s chances to win UK’s first super casino license.

The license would signal the creation of a GBP350 million casino, hotel and conference center on land at the nearby Central Station site. The Noble group is believed to file an appeal.
